Editor’s note: Since 2001, more than 1.7 million U.S. troops have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. According to a Rand Corporation study, some 20 percent (more than 300,000) of these veterans are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or major depression, which often lead to substance abuse, homelessness and even suicide.
