Too late to change?

Sometimes, we think we are too old to make a dramatic change in our lives. Maybe I should just speak for myself. I tend to think that I need to keep doing what I’m doing to advance my career, provide for my family, and secure my future. Starting over, following a new dream … well, it just seems like it might be too late for that.

People have been trying to describe and define the incarnation of God in Jesus since, well, since it happened. It’s a tough project — trying to use finite human language to contain the presence of an infinite God in a finite human body. How could a single human frame possess the unfathomable love of God? The question, at least for me, bends the mind.

Willing to follow the voice she hears

In today’s Gospel reading, an angel visits Mary and tells her that she will bear God’s child. We all know the story — the surprise, the questions, the faith. It’s so familiar; it may be hard for us to take it seriously as more than a Hallmark moment, part of the mythology of the baby Jesus.
