Silver Jubilarian Priests: The class of 1986

In 1986, Archbishop Roger Mahony — in his first year as head of the largest archdiocese in the United States — created the five pastoral regions as an innovative ministerial system to serve the archdiocesan Catholic population of 2.5 million. An auxiliary bishop and four deans were appointed in each region as a liaison between the people of the region and the archbishop.

Celebrating 1,100 years of ministry: Golden jubilarian priests

On April 25, 1961, Cardinal James Francis McIntyre — in the 13th of his 23 years as archbishop of the four-county (Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura and Santa Barbara) Archdiocese of Los Angeles — ordained the members of St. John’s 1961 class in St. Vibiana Cathedral.

Karen Schiada Barnes, assistant principal at St. Joseph High School, dies
Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 16 at St. Irenaeus Church in Cypress for Karen Schiada Barnes, assistant principal for counseling and guidance services at St. Joseph High School in Lakewood, who died Sept. 11 after a long and hard fought battle with cancer.
