Bishops OK statement on assisted suicide, charter revisions

The U.S. bishops June 16 approved a policy statement on physician-assisted suicide, the first on the issue by the bishops as a body, and they also approved revisions to their 2002 "Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People."

SVDP recruiting campers for Circle V Ranch Camp

LOS ANGELES — Space remains available for summer camp weeks at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Circle V Ranch Camp in the Santa Ynez Valley. On May 21 more than 200 people attended a Circle V Ranch open house to check out the facility, including a new miniature golf course donated by Randy and Elise Tripp of Santa Barbara.

Passage of laws in ’70s credited with decline in rate of abuse

The head of the U.S. bishops' Secretariat of Child and Youth Protection credited the passage of laws in the 1970s to protect women and children with leading to a decline in child sexual abuse.
