Adopt-A-Family volunteers needed to interview Skid Row families

The Adopt-A-Family family registration process started Sept. 6, but organizers of the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels’ charity program are still seeking bilingual volunteers (Spanish/English) to help interview about 300 low-income families in the Skid Row area.

The California Catholic Conference is urging Californians to call Gov. Jerry Brown and urge him to veto AB 499, which would allow children 12 and older to be vaccinated against sexually transmitted disease without parental consent or knowledge.

Statement on AB 499: A veto would respect parental rights

Editor’s note: On Sept. 6, Archbishop José H. Gomez issued the following statement on California Assembly Bill 499, which would allow children 12 and older to be vaccinated against sexually transmitted disease without parental consent or knowledge.

I am praying that Governor Brown will veto AB 499, which passed the California Senate last week.
