Notre Dame garners silver in state Academic Decathlon
Notre Dame Academy of West Los Angeles took second place in the state finals of the Academic Decathlon, missing the top prize by only 193 points out of a total of 24,000.

Some dozen Native Americans along with Auxiliary Bishops Edward Clark, Gabino Zavala and Alexander Salazar, Father Tom Schweitzer and Archbishop José Gomez were gathered around Kuruvunga Springs next to University High School in West Los Angeles. The sacred site was once a thriving Tongva village made up of tule-thatched houses called “kichas.”

For women and men religious, the celebration of milestone jubilees is, in a very real if not literal sense, a family event, given the nature of religious life. But when the Los Angeles Province of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet celebrated the religious jubilees of 34 members of their community March 26 at Carondelet Center, their provincial house in Brentwood, it really was a “family” matter.
